YES!OK!YES!OK!
Recap on Anthony Burrill’s story (RyeZine No.2) and Sam Nightingale’s story (RyeZine No.5). Then watch the video below!
Graphic artist Anthony Burrill has collaborated with Many Hands Studio to create a large typographic artwork on a farm in rural Kent.
Burrill approached Sam Nightingale, founder of Nightingale Cider, with a proposal to adorn a barn on the farm with bold text-based artwork as a message of positivity. Burrill had previously worked with Sam on the branding for Nightingale Cider and noticed the barn as a dream site for artwork. The repeated text 'YES!OK!' of the mural design speaks of a positive approach to working in collaboration with friends.
Burrill lives close to the farm in Kent and was keen to make a monumental piece of work in an unexpected rural location. Luke James from Many Hands Studio has worked previously with Burrill on the 'ME&YOU&YOU&ME' public artwork in Leeds. Their working relationship is based on a shared love for large-scale typography and close attention to detail.
On hand to document the process was photographer Tom Sharman, whose short film beautifully captures the hand-painted process. The film is soundtracked by a new composition by Malcolm Goldie.
The mural forms part of the annual transformation from barnyard to taproom, as Nightingale opens to the public for selected summer weekends. To celebrate the artwork, Nightingale has produced a limited-edition can design.
Opening dates are April 20th-21st, July 20th-21st and September 21st-22nd.

I'm grateful to Sam for accepting our proposal with positivity and support. When you collaborate with friends, you can make amazing things happen. At this time when uplifting news is in short supply it's important to be reminded of the power of positive actions. I'm looking forward to creating more outdoor public artworks. It's my ambition to develop this part of my practice further.

The moment Anthony approached me about this project, my answer was a resounding YES! This mural brings instant joy to our working farmyard and I'm very much looking forward to opening the space up for more people to enjoy during our taproom dates.

We had talked with Anthony for some time about creating a mural in the Kent Countryside. The tranquil setting provides a unique backdrop and is a stark contrast to the vast majority of our murals, which are painted in urban environments.

FURTHER PLANS FOR 2024: Burrill is also participating in the Look Again Supergraphics Festival in Newhaven, West Sussex. His 40-metre-long artwork will form the centrepiece of the festival in June and will once again be a collaboration with Many Hands Studio.
